Went to a Christmas light display at a park. People don’t really hang lights around their houses, but the flashy publicly funded light shows make up for it. It’s such a simple attraction.

This audio recording is of a man who was playing the trumpet and violin in the park that night. Public musicians in Japan are very different than in the States. People don’t busk for money or even for attention. This man was sitting in complete darkness on a bench that was facing the lake, way off the beaten path of the illuminations show. He seemed to just be playing for the mere cathartic experience of playing, or maybe to provide an anonymous soundtrack to our viewing experience.
