A few days ago we got our first real snowfall, at least an inch covered the ground at one point before melting away overnight. The flakes were the biggest I’ve seen, two or three inches in diameter.

Here’s a video I took at Hakata station that shows the snow, and also demonstrates how Japanese train stations can sound really busy and hectic even when they are deserted at 6pm on a Sunday night.

I love snow. I didn’t expect southern Japan to be so cold, but I’m happy to see my old friend snow again. As long as it’s gonna be cold, it might as well be pretty, too.
